Omega 49 Brush & Proraso Soap Review
Mark Anderson puts both the Omega 49 Bristle Hair Shaving Brush and the Proraso Eucalyptus & Menthol Shaving Cream through their paces.
I always thought shaving creams and soaps were the same, but as this review will layout, I was very wrong. For my first lather review I decided to go for Proraso Soap Tub with eucalyptus oil, menthol and glycerine. The tub/bowl comes in a rather sleek looking racing car green colour, with a reassuring all Italian description on the top, along with a seamless screw top design. It speaks of understated class and the smell of the soap is something out of an old barbershop.

I washed and prepped the face with hot water and shaving oil and decided to use the Omega Boar Brush as a lathering agent directly on the face. The brush is a rough, entry level brush with a course feel to it, ideally to lift hairs and exfoliate the skin, it is fairly weighty in the hand, Italian and lustrous. With the combination of lathering straight from the Proraso bowl, the brush did an excellent job. It only took 30 seconds to get enough foam and I applied to the old face. The hit of menthol is like an espresso to the face! Shaving in the morning is a pure wake up call. It seems to clear the airways and feels like a moisturiser to the skin.

I personally would firmly recommend the Proraso Soap along with the Omega brush. The soap does not dry out as a canister shaving foam/gel might. The skin stays moist, meaning you can take your time for a shave and have as many passes as you want to get that close shave you may desire.
However, my one gripe would be that the Omega Boar Brush may not be to everyone's taste. The roughness of the bristles may possibly be a turn off for some people. I personally believe that everyone will like the Proraso Soap as it ticks every box!
